ScaleBase Reports Record Year, Signing Several Strategic Partners and Notable Customers

Software delivers scalability and availability – enabling apps to scale to an infinite number of users and eliminating database downtime

BOSTON – January 15, 2013 — ScaleBase, the company that keeps next gen apps and business-critical databases up-and-running, just closed a record growth year, with $10.5m in venture funding and strategic relationships with some of the most innovative and well-known companies, including the world’s largest chip manufacturer, Amazon Web Services, HP Cloud Services and Mozilla, well known for its Firefox browser.

“App adoption is exploding, and databases can’t keep up – evident by recent incidents where widely used apps have been unavailable for hours,” said Ram Metser, CEO at ScaleBase. “Application providers need to scale their databases to an infinite number of users – and in a moment’s notice.  We’re giving them a proven, cost-effective way to do just that.”

ScaleBase – which backs some of the fastest growing databases in the world – improves database performance without changing the existing ecosystem – eliminating worries around database failures and excessive infrastructure costs.  Many application providers are using ScaleBase’s Data Traffic Manager to scale out their databases.  These companies include:

  • The world’s largest chip manufacturer – using ScaleBase to scale out a new line of business
  • One of world’s largest and most widely respected manufacturers of smart phones and telecommunications hardware and software – using ScaleBase to guarantee the availability of its distributed application and database infrastructure
  • Mozilla – using ScaleBase to maximize the scalability, availability and performance of its online app store: Mozilla Marketplace
  • Finger Foods Studios, the up-and-coming game developer company, which, just last month, selected ScaleBase to scale out databases in preparation for an upcoming interactive game launch
  • App Dynamics – using ScaleBase to manage and scale its complex database environment

“The database landscape has changed considerably in recent years with the emergence of new offerings driven by the need to process the increased volume and velocity of data, and the shift to scale-out, distributed architecture,” said Matt Aslett, research manager, data management and analytics, 451 Research. “We have also seen increased desire from IT managers, database administrators and developers alike to rethink their assumptions about databases – still the heart of any strategic IT initiative – in order to meet demands for performance, reliability and economics.”

In addition to winning many competitive deals in 2012, ScaleBase had a breakout year, including:

  • Raising $10.5M in venture funding from Bain Capital Ventures, Ascent Venture partners and Cedar Fund
  • Signing strategic partnerships with industry giants Amazon Web Services and HP Cloud Services
  • Forming a technical partnership with Codership for use of its Galera product
  • Doubling in size, with expanded leadership, sales, marketing and engineering teams
  • Moving to new corporate headquarters with over 15,000 square feet, to handle the company’s continued growth
